We are deeply saddened to share the news that Rick Reading, former Sales and Marketing Director at Topper Sailboats, passed away on Saturday, 6th December, after a short illness. He was 66 years old.

Rick retired only a few months ago, in August, after dedicating 25 years to Topper Sailboats. During that time, he became much more than a colleague — he was a trusted friend and an unwavering advocate for the Topper community worldwide. His enthusiasm and commitment helped shape the class into what it is today.

Rick worked closely with Martin Fry and Rob White to deliver the Topaz range of boats, which have become popular across the globe and introduced thousands of people to the joy of sailing. His vision and determination were instrumental in expanding opportunities for sailors of all ages and abilities.

Rick’s influence reached far beyond the office. He championed improvements to the Topper over the years and played a key role in its most recent innovations. His passion for sailing and his support for the community will leave a lasting legacy.

His passing, so soon after his retirement, is a heartbreaking loss. He will be missed dearly by his family, colleagues, and the many friends he made throughout his life. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his wife Mandy, his daughter Emma, and all who loved him.
