Former Topper World and National Champion Elliot Hanson was part of the Landrover BAR Academy team that won Red Bull Youth America’s Cup in Bermuda earlier this week.
Elliot Hanson started his sailing career at Redesmere SC in North Cheshire and still sails under the Redesmere burgee. He was Inland, National and World Champion in the Topper in 2008. After Toppers, Elliot transitioned successfully into the Laser class and he is now part of the RYA’s Podium Potential Squad. He recently won gold at Medemblik sailing the Laser in a strong international fleet.

Elliot is also a member of the Landrover BAR Sailing Academy, and was selected to be part of the British team to contest the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup in Bermuda as Wing trimmer and tactician. This event is for sailors between the ages of 18 and 24 and is sailed on AC45F foiling catamarans, as used recently by the senior team in the Americas Cup World Series.
“Look for the sailors you’ve seen here in this 2017 edition of the Red Bull Youth America’s Cup to be in the next America’s Cup four years from now. These young talents are the superstars of the future, and after seeing the level of skill and competitiveness they’ve shown here in Bermuda, there’s no doubt they’re going to take the sport to the next level.” commented Roman Hagara, Red Bull Youth America’s Cup sports director.
The Landrover BAR Sailing Academy team won a closely contested event to be crowned 2017 Red Bull Youth America’s Cup champions. You can read more about Elliot’s success here.
