Topper International are helping even more youngsters to get out on the water this year by donating 20 4.2 sails to the RYA OnBoard scheme (OB).
The sails will be used by young sailors across the country who are learning the sport through schools, sailing clubs, training centres and youth groups with the RYA’s OnBoard programme.
Jon Manners from Topper International said: “We are delighted to continue to support OnBoard. We hope that by providing the 4.2 sails we will see even more youngsters out on the water sailing in the Topper fleet this summer”.
In addition Topper are also donating a new 4.2 sail to any OnBoard sailor who attends Topper 4.2 Nationals which take place at Northampton Sailing Club (16-17 June 2012).
OnBoard Operations Officer Cat Ferguson said: “We are hugely grateful to Topper for the donation of the sails. Not only will it benefit our OB clubs and centres, it will also encourage sailors to experience their first taste of a national championship”.
Run by the RYA, OnBoard is a grass roots programme which introduces sailing and windsurfing to young people aged 8 to 18, through schools, youth groups and training centres.
Over a ten year period OnBoard aims to introduce a minimum of 500,000 children to sailing and windsurfing in the UK, converting over 10% of them into regular participants. So far it’s nicely on track.
